Network Security Engineer

Description

This position requires 90% security and 10% Network skills

Responsible for maintaining the security of the enterprise Data Center network infrastructure, Internet circuits, DNS servers, mail relays, proxy servers and all internet-facing equipment.

 Interacts with other network/security engineers, system administrators, systems analysts, support center, technicians, vendors and users relating to applications associated with a production-computing environment.  Addresses issues and requests logged in ticketing queue related to Security events, Internet and extranet connectivity and FW rules.  Monitors and reacts to events generated by SNMP monitoring, SIEM, and Vulnerability Assessment tools.  Keeps management aware of problems and presents practical solutions to these problems

The ideal candidate will have the following: Nitro, Rapid 7, Juniper SRX, UNIX (Red Hat, Suse, Linux)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining the Data Center network infrastructure, Internet circuits, DNS servers, mail relays, proxy servers and all internet-facing equipment. This includes maintaining server configurations; supporting/troubleshooting network/system problems; coordinating with vendors for installation of such items as security applications and other systems, and project implementation.
  • Performs installation and maintenance of network electronics, software, and solutions.
  • Recommends hardware and software acquisitions to meet projected demands.
  • Adheres to problem resolution and escalation procedures, documenting, and responding to all related system problems and resolving them on a timely basis.
  • Notifies manager of problem areas and develops backup strategy and emergency plans.
  • Responsible for keeping production environment secure.
  • Keeps current on all published security warnings, and keeps abreast of industry trends and changes in network software and hardware technologies in order to improve current service levels.
  • Off hours availability for emergencies and change windows is required.
  • Performs regular on-call duties as scheduled.

Education:          Four-year college degree.

Experience (Type & Length) 4+ years of professional experience in a medium to large organization with complex networks.

Certification/Licensure: Preferred industry certifications include: CCNA, 500 level SANS, CISSP.

Software/Hardware:  

  • Ability to deploy and manage complex internet facing infrastructures.
  • A broad and thorough knowledge of security systems, BIND, Squid, Postfix, Amavis, Snort, and tcpdump is required.
  • Proficiency in a scripting language such as Perl is desirable.
  • Experience with Cisco network and VOIP products are desirable.
  • Experience with Unix (especially FreeBSD and Linux) is required.
  • Knowledge and expertise in planning, installation and administration of HP servers, Server Virtualization, client-server computing, web servers, Storage Area Networks, and software and hardware redundancy techniques.

Other:   Ability to troubleshoot network/system related issues and manage components in a production environment is critical.
